Emulating a Professional Photographer

Writer's picture: Alexandra WebberAlexandra Webber

I think this is my most successful image for this assignment. I would say the hardest part of the assignment for me was trying to recreate the photographs without creating a carbon copy of them. I wanted some of the elements of the original images to stay consistent in my photos, but also tried to make sure I brought something new to them as well. In the future, I'll create stronger images by thinking about different ways to approach commonly used techniques. For example, in my photo above, I wanted to achieve a similar focus on the subject without using the same lighting and vignette as the original artist. Using my skin tone to my advantage, I posed against a light background in order to create contrast between myself and my surroundings, establishing myself as the center of the image.

Comment on another student's blog: https://emmyrosephotos.carrd.co/ "Hi Emily! Wow I love the setup of your website so much. I also really like the image you chose to showcase for this blogpost. The various spotlights hitting the subject from multiple angles creates movement within the image while establishing a focus. I also like the different colors of light coming through from the stage. The only thing I would maybe do differently is play around with the exposure a bit and see if you an get more of a contrast between the lights and the darker background, but this is a great photo! Good job :)"
